The regulatory body has been ‘unfit for purpose’ for many years and has treated good providers of social care from the independent sector often with distain, with a negative ‘big brother’ attitude. They have treated social care as the second-class citizen to the NHS, as much of the statutory and public sector do.

The sector has endured constant pressure from the regulator and other statutory bodies to improve whilst having its funding needs ignored and squeezed. The vulnerable members of our society need and deserve good quality care and support, and providers from the Independent Sector and VCS deserve to be treated equally and with respect.

People working in our sectors should be offered parity of pay and conditions as well as parity of esteem. We hope this now leads to the opportunity to listen to the vastly experienced leaders across our sector to improve the lives of the people who work within and receive services from our valued providers.
