React to Red Pressure Ulcer Prevention Programme
React to Red is a pressure ulcer prevention programme rolled out in the Leeds via Leeds CCG. A method of train the trainer has been implemented, allowing each care home/provider to identify champions who will train remaining staff on the importance of “reacting to red” and the early detection of pressure ulcers.
The training will provide resources and guidance to assist the champions and is coordinated by Wren Healthcare. Wren Healthcare is a CQC registered provider that is working in partnership with the CCG to deliver the programme. The React to Red sessions can either be in a morning or afternoon (3 hours), and have up to 12 attendees, with 3 champions identified. The training takes place in the care home and is delivered by a specialist clinical nurse. The aim of the project is to “react to red skin” and recognise a pressure ulcer before it develops, and as a team in the home to help prevent this by keeping residents moving. Once the train the trainer has been completed, champions will be given login details for an online forum, where each home trained can discuss and share best practice.
